CONVEY EMOTIONAL NARRATIVES.STORYTELLING. ACCIDENTAL AND CONSIDERED MARK MAKING, COLOUR, gesture.

ABOUT

I am interested in storytelling. My work seeks to convey emotional narratives through site-specificity and the process of meticulous making.

The themes that permeate my work include memory, flux, faith and change. It explores the boundaries, tensions and relationships between colour, form, gesture, line, and accidental mark-making.

My work is interdisciplinary, however collage forms the basis of my practice, and informs its development into painting, installation and sculpture. I'm interested in accidental process, chance encounters and play with materials.

The sculptures become extensions of the paintings, emphasizing their textured qualities through spatial orientations, while also dealing with colour and material relationships.

Material play and experimental methodology come together to produce brightly coloured, intense textile-based objects that have as much to do with the language of book-design as with painting.

I often use existing forms and materials as a departure point - an abandoned object, failed painting, yesterday’s newspaper cuttings - to build layered collages and sculptural forms fused with themes of memory, flux, faith and change.

Certain colours and patterns draw directly from the associative textiles. The paintings deal with aspects of colour, form, gesture, line, and accidental mark-making.
